About the Activity

This came to me after I found out how difficult it is for students to master the paper-based TOEFL, listening section, part C. They made very low scores for this part, which got me to think what could be the best way to improve them.

After thinking for some time, I kind of found that things that students should have while doing the test were:

  1. Comprehension of the text
  2. Concentration
  3. Good memory

One thing that is also important about this test is that there is no note taking activity involved.

Procedure
  • Students are free to choose which booth and tape to start from.
  • Students only listen to the tape.  They are not allowed to write anything on the worksheet.
  • They must cue the tape back after listening so the next person can directly listen to the passage.
  • Students turn off the tape after listening and take off the headphone.
  • They write what they have just heard.
  • Students go to the next booth.
